If you’re like us, your pup is one of your best friends, and you hate leaving him or her at home when the gang goes out for dinner or hits the town. Seriously, how can you say “no” to those puppy dog eyes?
Thankfully, Corpus Christi is a dog-loving, outdoor-patio-laden city where both owner and pup can relax and refuel at a local restaurant or bar.
If you’re looking for some Fido-friendly places to enjoy with your dog (or if you just love seeing adorable dogs while you’re out), we’ve got a list of just a few of our favorite pup-friendly Corpus haunts to make sure no doggo gets left behind.
1. BUS (Bar Under The Sun)
Neighborhood: Downtown Corpus Christi

Recently opened in March of 2018, this bus-station-turned-patio-bar offers fun for the whole family…doggos included! This much-celebrated local favorite has a wide selection of beer, wine, signature cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages, plus plenty of yard games and a rotating schedule of local food trucks. With plenty of shady spots and a designated “Dog Bar,” BUS is a favorite spot for canines of all breeds and sizes.
Do Sunday Funday right with mimosas at “Bar Under the SUNdays” (August 20th, August 26th, and September 2nd at 12 noon) or practice your Downward Dog with patio yoga during their summer “Buti & Brunch” series.
2. Hester’s Cafe

Started by a couple of high school sweethearts with a passion for bringing people together through food, Hester’s Cafe was recently voted the best bakery, brunch, and coffee spot on The Bend magazine’s Local’s List 2018. With three uniquely dazzling locations and three mouth-watering menus, this triple-threat eatery always serves up the best in-house brewed coffee and homemade treats around! Even better: two of those locations are dog-friendly (the Hester’s in the Art Museum of South Texas is understandably a dog-free zone), making this the paw-fect spot to unwind with your canine cutie.
3. Tavern On The Bay at Harrison’s Landing

Tucked away in the Flour Bluff neighborhood (just steps from the gate to Naval Air Station Corpus Christi) is Lorelei Brewing Co, a leader in the rapidly growing Corpus Christi craft brewing industry. Driven by an obsession with creating high-quality, innovative craft beer and bringing a fresh and imaginative personality to the industry, it’s no wonder it was voted “Best Microbrewery” this year!
What makes Lorelei a leader in the dog-friendly industry? Not only do they welcome all dogs, but they always keep homemade treats on hand in the taproom for your furry friend. #doggoapproved

After a day at the beach, a burger and beer at the restaurant on the pier sound like heaven! Too bad your pup has to stay outside in the sun…unless you hit up Mikel May’s on Padre Island. Overlooking the Gulf of Mexico from atop Bob Hall Pier on the beach, this low-key local haunt offers no-fuss fish tacos, burgers, sandwiches, and fresh fish. And some of the best karaoke around! The beach and the pier belong to everyone, and dogs are always welcome at Mikel May’s.
6. The Gold Fish
Neighborhood: Downtown Corpus Christi

Out with the old and in with the new! What used to be an abandoned gas station is now a trendy patio bar and a forerunner in the downtown revitalization movement. Friendly staff, atmospheric architecture and lighting, and a gentle breeze off the marina always set the tone for a great time at The Gold Fish. Whether you go for a craft beer or one of their specialty drinks, you can’t go wrong at this half-indoor-half-outdoor hotspot, and there’s a good chance you’ll see a few pups in both areas — this bar is well-known for its canine love!
